The Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on Circular Economy in Smart Cities aims to deepen the knowledge of the circular economy and to explore ways in which we can redesign our systems, products, businesses and services to allow us to achieve future sustainable cities.
The course addresses issues and formative skills on the UNESCO SDGs related to Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12), Climate action (SDG 13), and transversely with Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG6), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG7) and Gender equality (5).
Students attending this course will have the unique opportunity to experience the work in international groups and to improve their soft skills.
The project SafeEngine is a Strategic Partnership concerned on the development of innovative tools for engineering higher education sector, supporting the improvement of some learning outcomes-oriented curricula that better meet the learning needs of students, while also being relevant for the labor market and for the wider society. The general objective of the project is the development, test and implementation of 4 stackable course modules for engineering development training programmers that are answering to society needs and environmental health and workplace safety requirements. Practically, throughout the project implementation, specific knowledge (occupational health and safety, environmental risk assessment, safety in process industries and social inclusion of peoples with disabilities in the workplace) will tackle the current skills gaps of engineers that partner universities are preparing.

The overall goal of the EnvYJobs project is to develop an e-learning platform based on educational resources that allows for easy understanding of complex environmental engineering issues. In this regard, one of the objectives of the project was the development and implementation of six courses and related laboratories, with remote access, which address the following environmental issues:
- Design, Modeling and Simulation Techniques for Wastewater Treatment Processes;
- Soil and Air Quality Monitoring Techniques;
- Sustainable Drinking Water Supply Systems;
- Closing the Nutrient-Energy-Water cycle, NEW, through a Zero-Emission Water Management System (NB. NEW = Nutrients Energy & Water);
- Geoinformation technologies for Environmental Changes and Pressures Assessment;
- Flood Hazard Assessment.
The whole learning mode is called EnvYJobs and for each course appropriate teaching materials are provided: programs, electronic courses (ebooks), printed books on CD, virtual labs and webinars. At the end of the courses and the virtual labs in the e-learning module, the students are examined by means of an electronic evaluation form. If they have passed each of the tests corresponding to the courses in the e-learning module, students will receive a certificate of participation in the EnvYJobs e-learning module.
The EnvYJobs platform was implemented in a web server as an open source web application used to create interactive online learning sites for educational purposes. Within the EnvYJobs project, the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest chose the Moodle platform, which is considered the most used platform in the higher education system, with a strong impact on both society and the education system.
Laboratory activities are an important part of the EnvYJobs learning module developed in the project. At the base of these activities are the electronic laboratories that have been uploaded to the platform.
Although the project was completed in 2018, the platform can be used by teachers and students.
The platform is also used by the Erasmus plus SafeEngine project - Blended Learning through Innovative Tools for Sustainable and Safety Engineering and Social Inclusion, Contract: 2020-1-RO01-KA203-080085, being completed with the courses offered in this project.
