Research strategy

The research, education and social impact are inseparable elements of a modern university. Research brings value to both education and society. The role of academic research is essential nowadays, where technological advances are rapid, taking place in a constantly changing world, so that knowledge and information are increasingly important. Research plays an important role in the competition between universities and in the possibility for academic research groups to join competitive research groups abroad.

In the knowledge-based society that characterizes today's world, the Faculty of Energy Engineering aims to become an important player at national and international level, producing and transferring knowledge through education, scientific research, and innovation, bringing elements of complementarity and specific approaches in the international space of education and scientific research.

The Faculty of Energy Engineering has defined, for the current period, as a topic of great relevance, the research field on Efficient, ecological, and intelligent energy systems. The main objective of scientific research in the Faculty of Energy Engineering is to increase research performance, increasing the visibility of scientific results and equipment we have, strengthen the leading position in scientific research in Romania in the field of energy engineering and advancing in the international energy-specific rankings, considering of Horizon Europe priority research topics.

Also, the aim is for the scientific research in the faculty to be oriented towards the objectives of the Energy Strategy of Romania 2019-2030 with the perspective of 2050 and of the new Strategic Agenda 2019-2024.

The main targeted actions are:

  • supporting the projects submitted by the academic staff of our Faculty in national or international competitions, including those in the Competitivity Operational Program (Programul Operațional Competitivitate) 2014 – 2020 and the Human Capital Operational Program (Programul Operațional Capital Uman) 2014 – 2020;

  • updating the research directions of our faculty taking into account the priority research topics of Horizon Europe and the internationalization of research by encouraging the participation of the academic staff members in large-scale international projects;

  • intensifying the efforts for the use of the Integrated Infrastructure for Complex Research with applications in the field of Energy-Environment-Water, IIC - RENEWS, included in 2017 in the national roadmap, in order to obtain funds for scientific research;

  • supporting the research of high economic relevance, which results in innovative products and services, provides business opportunities or improves people's lives;

  • strengthening relations with the socio-economic environment by carrying out joint research projects oriented towards their needs and technology transfer;

  • setting up research groups in interdisciplinary fields, with group leaders, usually PhD supervisors, who will be able to bring together PhD students, postdoctoral students, young teachers and researchers attracted by internal mobilities within the ARUT and international partnerships; the doctoral school must become the main promoter of these research groups;

  • attracting in the research groups from the Faculty the top students from the final years of the bachelor and master cycles, as well as the PhD students from the doctoral school and those coming from universities from Romania and abroad;

  • attracting students in the activity specific of student scientific circles of the faculty; analysis and restructuring of scientific circles in the faculty;

  • supporting start-up/spin-off initiatives and setting up incubation programs, pre-acceleration or development for such initiatives;

  • consolidation and development of strategic partnerships with companies from the energy domain as well as with similar faculties/departments from abroad;

  • strengthening the relationships with the similar faculties from Romania through joint research projects;

  • stimulating scientific research by awarding an annual prize for excellence in research to an academic staff member, and to a PhD student from the faculty, respectively;

  • increasing the visibility of the faculty by (co-)organizing scientific events in the field, especially the International Conference Energy-Environment (CIEM) together with similar faculties from Romania;

  • increasing the visibility of the scientific research in the faculty by disseminating the results in prestigious journals and conferences, as well as participating with a booth at major international events to present the research results;

  • the presentation in the Faculty Council of the results of the research projects by the project director or the person in charge from UPB so that the Faculty community is aware of and employ the results of the Faculty researches.
