Laboratory High Voltage

The High Voltage Laboratory is the largest academic laboratory in Romania. It is equipped with industrial testing facilities used for teaching, research and industrial tests. The main equipment are: impulse voltage generators up to 3500 kV (1.2/50 μs)/2000 kV (250/2500 μs) respectively 1200 kV (1.2 / 50 μs); power frequency test transformers up to 1200 kV, 400 kV and 150 kV, respectively; DC voltage test installations: 300 kV and 50 kV, reference measuring system (impulse: 450 kV/AC: 150 kV/DC: 180 kV); artificial rain installations for equipment up to 400 kV and 110 kV respectively; transient recorder, impulse and step voltage calibrator, step voltage generator, digital voltmeters for direct and alternating voltages and for impulse voltages respectively.

The largest hall of this laboratory has a usable area of 864 sqm and contains the 3500 kV impulse generator, the 1200 kV power frequency test transformer and other auxiliary equipment.

For industrial customers from Romania and abroad, a large variety of dielectric tests can be performed for high voltage insulator strings, switching equipment, protective live working equipment, etc.
